The Dutch headquarters of Rhenus Contract Logistics in Tilburg, also known as The Tube, has won the National Steel Award in the category ‘industrial construction’.

The National Steel award exists since 1971 and celebrates the inspiring use of steel in projects of construction, modification or renovation projects in the Netherlands. The jury nominates projects in five categories, which are utility construction, industrial construction, housing construction, infrastructure and characteristic steel components.

Since 2012, Rhenus has been working with Dutch-based developer DOKVAST to build smart, innovative and sustainable buildings and share a common belief that functionality, feasibility, comfort and outward appearance are key considerations.

Alphons van Erven, Senior Vice President Rhenus Contract Logistics, comments: “The award is an acknowledgment of the collaboration between Heembouw, Reijrink Staalconstructie, Pelecon Structural Engineers, DOKVAST and Rhenus. Together, with the vision of architect Hung of Habeon Architecten, we were able to realise a building that has become a landmark for sustainability and design in the Netherlands and abroad.”

Jos Klanderman, Managing Director of DOKVAST, states: "DOKVAST is very pleased with this award. With the development of this extremely sustainable, unique distribution centre, it has been proven that it is perfectly possible to design a multifunctional distribution centre in a way that is architecturally attractive and pleasant to work in."
