Re Capital secures planning consent for flagship logistics development in Geneva

RE Capital, the pan-European investment, development and asset management company, has obtained the building permit for its flagship industrial and logistics RUBIX project, located in Meyrin-Satigny (Zimeysa) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The RUBIX project will convert 47,000 sqm of two former factory buildings into a multi-modular, high-tech, eco-efficient facility. The interiors of the building will be designed in a free plan system, and floor load capacity and ceiling height will allow for unlimited re-configuration of the spaces without resorting to large structural modifications. Tenants can personalise their premises according to their needs and transform them as their activities evolve. This allows for tenants to maintain their logistics activities, workshops, laboratories, and offices under one roof.

RUBIX’s infrastructure is designed around a perfectly insulated envelope, but with generous natural light, and spaces open to the outside. Heat production will be generated by geothermal probes, and by solar panels on both the roof and facades, qualifying RUBIX as a High Energy Performance (HPE) building.

Designed by de Giuli & Portier architects, construction on RUBIX is planned to begin in the summer of 2022. Highly reputable and experienced Swiss construction company HRS have been appointed as the main works contractor.

Olivier Hezelot, Head of Europe at RE Capital, said: “This sizable new industrial project in Meyrin-Satigny will be a cutting-edge scheme that serves as the benchmark for modern construction in light industrial and logistics spaces. We believe that this iconic project will fit the local market’s current demand for modern and flexible spaces in a way that is unmatched in Geneva and will enhance even further the attractivity of this zone. This project consolidates RE Capital’s commitment to the Geneva economy.”

Johannes Gerzain, lead project manager for RE Capital, said: “RUBIX will be part of the regeneration of the industrial zone Zimeysa, at the Geneva gates. Its multimodal and high-tech architecture will combine modernism and integration into its environment to offer an ideal destination for the final users. This flagship project is part of RE Capital’s investment strategy in Switzerland and is an excellent example of the kind of spaces we want to create for the local market here as we do elsewhere in the UK and Portugal.”
