Construction Youth Trust (CYT) has partnered with the Goodman Foundation as it develops its Haringey hub as a vital service for young people in the community, inspiring them to reach their full career potential.

The collaboration with Goodman, a specialist industrial property and digital infrastructure group, will empower young people in Haringey to take meaningful steps towards a sustainable career in construction by providing them with the confidence, knowledge and skills to succeed.

While youth unemployment levels in Haringey currently exceed the London average, the construction and built environment sector offers a range of accessible career opportunities. The industry directly employs nearly 10% of the UK’s workforce, providing the essential infrastructure that drives sustainable growth.

The three-year partnership will focus on:

  1. Developing long-term relationships with new schools and colleges in the borough
  2. Expanding Construction Youth Trust’s dedicated coaching programmes such as Pathways to Professional Careers and Building Opportunities to deliver improved skills for employment and support at least 150 people by 2027
  3. Building relationships with new employers who can offer work experience and apprenticeships to young people

Several major developments in Haringey are expected to create 1,000 local jobs by 2031, as well as provide pathways for employment and new training opportunities that can directly benefit the community. Over the past 15 months, in partnership with Haringey Council, CYT’s Haringey hub has helped to deliver programmes in seven schools and colleges, supporting more than 80 young people with intensive coaching to prepare them for employment.

Construction Youth Trust CEO, Carol Lynch, said: “We are excited to partner with the Goodman Foundation and to realise a shared vision for Haringey: a local community where young people can flourish.
“Youth unemployment levels are disproportionately high in the borough, particularly among minority groups, alongside significant post-school progression gaps influenced by gender and ethnicity. Enabling young people in Haringey to have access to job and training opportunities can help address these challenges and drive social mobility in the area.”

Since 2004, the Goodman Foundation has provided tangible support to those experiencing disadvantage in the communities Goodman operates in. With the majority of its UK developments located in London and the South East – and future investment planned for North London – the partnership with CYT will provide young people with the tools to overcome barriers, build confidence and take meaningful steps to achieving long-term financial stability.

Goodman UK Managing Director, Charles Crossland, added: "We are proud to partner with like-minded organisations that offer education and employment pathways that will inspire, and lead to self-sufficiency and resilience.
“Construction Youth Trust shares our vision of providing young people, regardless of their life circumstances, with the opportunity to reach their full potential. Through our partnership, we look forward to investing in Haringey’s future workforce and providing the skills that can enable regeneration and deliver essential infrastructure to support economic growth.
"We believe this collaboration will make a difference to the lives of young people and help build a more inclusive, sustainable community.”
